In 2013, Rick Bestwick, based in Chesterfield and run by then Managing Director, Kevin Hancock (who opened his first coldstore in 1993) became part of the Magnavale Group, whose business model is to bring together like-minded, family-run operations to achieve the critical mass necessary to meet the challenges of today’s food industry. Later additions to the Magnavale Group were Via Coldstores (with a modern coldstore facility in Scunthorpe), the Warrington business of Cold Move (bringing in the Woodward family who themselves have over 50 years’ experience in foodservice), and the Liverpool site (which includes an automated store) formerly run by the Frederick ice-cream family.

In 2016, the Magnavale Group took the decision to operate its sites at Chesterfield, Scunthorpe, Warrington and Liverpool under the one Rick Bestwick brand – a brand with a 30-year legacy in food manufacturing and synonymous with being a pioneer of technology and bringing bespoke solutions to the food industry.

From October 2017, the helm will be taken by new Chief Executive, Colin Taylor who aims to continue growth, taking advantage of the synergies between the separate elements with a more corporate and structured approach, whilst retaining the customer-centred approach of a family run business.
