A new multi-million pound food storage facility could create nearly 100 new jobs over the next two years in Chesterfield if planning permission is granted.
Rick Bestwick, a leading food storage and distribution company has applied to North East Derbyshire District Council to build an 18,000sq. ft food processing / handling facility and additional 80,000sq. ft of cold storage on adjoining vacant land to one of its sites at the Holmewood Industrial Park.
The company says the facility is needed to meet demand from major food manufacturers and retailers in the South Yorkshire and East Midlands.
Kevin Hancock, managing director of Rick Bestwick said: “Through the ever increasing demand for the unique services Rick Bestwick provides in cold storage, food processing and distribution to both manufacturers and retailers, this development is key to not only securing more business, but generating much needed new and sustainable jobs for North East Derbyshire.”
If the development gets the go ahead it will create a cold storage facility capable of storing 20,000 pallets and a state of the art food processing and handling facility, as well as parking for 20 trucks.
It is hoped the first stage of the project will be completed by October of this year with phase two complete by July 2016.
